The following are the most common questions I have received in my mail messages
GenoPro is a program to build genealogy trees and was originally named "Generations". Since the name "Generations" is a trademark of Sierra, the program has been renamed to GenoPro.
Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT. It is recommended to use Windows NT to display and print large genealogy trees. If you are not using Windows NT, you are limited to a small genealogy trees.
GenoPro has been tested on a 386 with 4 MB of RAM and runs at a suitable speed.
This is the bare minimum machine to run GenoPro.
- 386 running Windows 95. GenoPro does not run on a 286 and/or
Windows 3.x
- 2.0 MB free disk space (Minimum 400 KB, Maximum 3.0 MB).
- VGA Display (640x480 with 16 colors).
- Mouse or equivalent pointing device.
- Web browser to read the online help.
It is highly recommended to run GenoPro on Windows NT to edit large genealogy trees. To run Windows NT 4.0, you need a minimum of a Pentium with 32 MB of RAM. Pictures best viewed on True Color display, so if you can't have True Color (24 bits) try to set your display settings to High Color (16 bits).
A: GenoPro.exe (375 KB). This is the only executable module you need to carry around. For instance, if you want to distribute your genealogy tree on a floppy disk, all you need to put on the floppy is GenoPro.exe and your genealogy tree.
Make sure you copy InstallGenoPro.exe
and InstallMfcDLL.exe on the
CD. The file InstallMfcDLL.exe is optional, however may occasionally be required by
InstallGenoPro.exe when installing GenoPro on Windows 95.

Yes. If you are interested having your download area, you are welcome to do so. If you want, you can copy the HTML pages from my web site and customize them or translate them to your own taste. It is preferable you put a link to http://www.genopro.net/InstallGenoPro.exe to allow people to always download the latest version of GenoPro. If you make a copy of InstallGenoPro.exe to your web site, then you have to periodically update the file when a new version is available
Download http://www.genopro.net/InstallGenoPro.exe and run the installation program. The installation wizard will install (copy) all the necessary files onto your machine and create an uninstall script in the case uninstallation is desired. You can uninstall GenoPro from the Add/Remove Programs icon of the Control Panel.
Your machine is missing a system library. This is a rare case less than 1% of all machines. Download http://www.genopro.net/InstallMfcDLL.exe and double-click on it. The program InstallMfcDLL.exe will install mfc42.dll and msvcrt.dll into the Windows system directory (folder).
Your system has an old version of MFC42.DLL. Download InstallMfcDLL.exe and double-click on it.
You must have a Web browser to view the online help. If you don't have one, you can install Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.
1. You must have installed GenoPro on your machine.
2. You must use a web browser capable to host an ActiveX control. So far, the only browser
I know is Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Yes. You can download GenoPro from my personal web site http://www.danmorin.com/. The installation files

You can specify the number of horizontal and vertical pages you want to print your genealogy tree. GenoPro will automatically scale the font to the desired layout. To change the number of pages, use the Page Setup dialog from the File menu.
GenoPro is limited to coordinates between -32,768 and +32,767 on Windows 95 and Windows 98. There is nothing to do since this is a limitation of the Windows Graphical Device Interface (GDI) for backward compatibility with Windows 3.x. To get around the problem, you can to any of the following:
fThe rest of this page contains the revision history of GenoPro. You will see many incremental changes because I have little time to add features to GenoPro. I add features to GenoPro wherever I can, and make new releases when there is enough features to make a difference. All version 1.x share the same file format, and thus are fully backward and forward compatible with any existing .gno documents. Version 2.00 will contain many new features and will be able to read any genealogy tree you built using GenoPro version 1.x..
